A new digital technology Frequency Monitor capable of detecting the change in operating frequencies that are the most common cause of failure in appliances and refrigeration units. The instrument has been designed to protect all 240 volt equipment operating on any cruising alternator, generator plant or genset of any size by providing control over the output frequency - complementing conventional thermal overload devices for maximum appliance electric motor protection. The Frequency Monitor can be used to accurately set engine revolutions for maximum control of frequency on all generator plants without guess work or reliance on a tachometer.

The operating frequency is displayed on bright LED's and will dim automatically as light fades to enable night time use. The accuracy of the meter reading is 0.1 of a cycle and is set to operate between 46 and 54 cycles (56 to 64 in the case of a 60Hz system). If, due to overloading or motor fault, the operating frequency extends beyond these parameters, a continuous audible alarm sounds and the display LED's flash. If the operating error continues for more than 5 seconds, a facility is available on the instrument to trip out earth leakage or other current devices to protect operating motors and appliances. In the case of supply isolation, the instrument can be arranged to control the mains power through an electromechanical contactor and for generator shutdown, a relay can be incorporated into the generator start/stop circuitry. If the unit is operated via a relay, the power will automatically turn back on when the frequency is normal.

Display to 0.1Hz enables the accurate setup of generator operating rpm. The audible warning provides a short time to institute some controlled load shedding (if overload is the cause of a drop in frequency), and correct the condition of a mains contactor incorporating a manual or automatic reset will allow the generator to continue to run off load while the cause of the condition is investigated. The instrument carries a full replacement 12 months warranty.
